BiBi Card - Quark and Photoshop

Well, this is one project that I did not enjoy at all, and found it completely pointless, and made me wonder why would I ever need to make a subscription card. But made me laugh because I thought of Shiebler, and realized I'll always think of him fondly.

Ok non-the-less. Design rationale time. I know it was said that many people believed photoshop to be the easier of the two programs, I personally found Quark to be much easier and much better looking once I got the hang of it, granted it took me about an hour and some assistance to get the hang of it. The thing I liked most of all about the product was the actual finished product itself. The thing I hated was when the programs wouldn't cooperate with me, therefore frustrating me. But like I said, I was extremely excited when I got the grip of quark because it was MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than photoshop. I think alot of the people in the class said photoshop was easier because we had been spending so much time working in photoshop. I didn't expect quark to be as easy as it was. I was very frustrated on the white sides of the card in both programs because I couldn't make the lines on the right side to be all the same size or resemble each other at all, which also got quite frustrating.

Through this entire project the only time I enjoyed myself was when I was working in quark. Which surprised me because I was petrified of a new program. I tend to be a person against change, but this change was completely for the better. I feel that I learned alot, and will be able to use quark in the future for future tasks in life. (no trying to suck up - I actually mean it) The time difference in making these were photoshop about 1 1/2 hours, and quark 45 minutes. granted the time actually went by pretty quick. The photos attached are my finished products. My first two are my photoshop ones, and I took the screen shots of my finished product in the quark layout this way you had the proof that I actually did them in quark. Thank you for a great semester !! and happy holidays!!

Bristol 4th of July - Group Work

In this project, each member of the group had their assigned tasks. More often than not however, we worked on one computer in putting ideas and working together to make a good final product. There are certain tasks that each of us were assigned, that may have been altered in our final project but as a unit my team and I worked cohesively. Every person had input on every part of this project. There is a little bit of Devon, Ryann, and Marianne in every element. I can't personally take credit for an specific part. I was assigned to do the poster, and I made the outline for the PSA. I did the sound for the PSA, and helped work on all the different parts of the project. I can creative design rationale on almost all of the aspects of the project, as well as article ideas for the brochure and newsletter. My other team members also helped me with my parts of the project.

Pictures enclosed are pictures of the brouchure, my part in the original power point pitch and some slides of the PSA that I put together, though they were later altered afterwards.

Music Slide-Show

For my slide-show presentation based on one of my favorite artists I chose to present Lily Allen. She's a singer from England, with poppy up-beat tempos with less then orthodox lyrics for the type of music she plays. She sings about cheating ex's and how she enjoys seeing them cry. She talks about her marijuana smoking little brother, old women getting mugged, pimps and crack whores as well as shopping at the grocery store. For the first slide in my presentation I chose a black and white picture the best depicted Lily's Personality while the rest of the slide I chose a coral background with white writing. I felt this color scheme worked best with the other pictures later on in the presentation, and was very cohesive and didn't get draining to read off of.The second slide, I chose to do background information on Allen and her life experiences. I chose to make the background a performance picture of her. I altered it in photoshop changed the pixels, as well at saturted the picture this way making it easier to read off of. I altered the colors to make the main focus off your eye her pink dress and chose a black text because the white wasn't didn't flow as well.
The third slide i altered another performance picture and removed the texture from the picture making the colors alot more mundane and adding a link to the artists website for anyone who may be interested in finding out more information about her.
The fourth slide I did a comparison chart shows the differences between her and fellow artists from her country that she has recently been compared to in the public eye. I compared her age, town of birth and first single to those of Lady Soverign, and Amy Winehouse. The Side I chose a vertical mural of many pictures from different angles with the coral background with the white writing.
The fifth and final slide is the slide displaying all her track titles and time as well as her American Album cover. Again - I used the coral background and the white text to make the entire show flow together.
I found the most challenging thing on this project to be the tampering with the MP3. There were so many ways to get it done, but it was the hardest. This project in itself was very fun because you got to make a slide-show depicted not only yours but your artists personality.

Design Rational - Font Poem

I chose the saying “A woman who does not wear perfume, has no future.” by Coco Chanel, because I enjoy wearing perfume and much like other women it makes me feel more beautiful, giving me more confidence. When a woman displays confidence she tends to exceed expectations given by herself or others, allowing her to go further in life.
In the rough draft of the font poem, I started with the font “Lucida Handwriting”, and then followed with the font “Harrington”, every other line being either Lucida or Harrington. I chose these two fonts, because I felt Lucida gave the allure of a handwritten line, and Harrington gave the quote a more feminine appeal. The word “Future” was displayed in a font called “Eccentric Std.” which gave the word, unlike the others a more bold look, and signing the name Coco Chanel with the text “Giddyup Std.”
In the final draft, I stuck with mainly with the font “Harrington” to write most of the words, which I later molded into the shape of an old fashion perfume bottle. Then used the text “Playbill” for the word future, giving it a more bold and circular look, which is the attached to the perfume bottle by a cord. To give the look of the ball a person would have to squeeze to make the perfume come out. Then the name of the quoted in the handwriting “Lucida Handwriting” to give it the appeal as in the person who said it signed their name themselves. I chose the color purple for the details, because purple is often affiliated with royalty, which is often makes people think of beauty and wealth.

Design Rational - Contact Sheet

In my contact sheet I tried to pick photographs that would best display the six different categories nessary in this assignment. For the resolution I chose a photograph of a bowl of cereal because the difference in resolution was much better than other photographs I tried. My theme through the entire contact sheer was to try and use pictcures that displayed everyday things. Therefore creating a possiblity for different perspectives on them. The picture's resoltion was much clearer with each adjustment.
The format process in changing the color of the picture was rather easy until I needed to to the Duotone. The brightness of the yellow in the rose was much harder for me to decrease than anything else in the picture. I found this section, however, to be one of my favorite to do, because it was interesting to play with the colors of the picture because each color scheme seemed to give it a different kind of mood.
The orientation section was different to do because though what ended up being the entire potrait was the main focus of the square and landscape orientation, once the excess was eliminated, it created a much more "intense" picture. For my framing section, I felt my picture worked really well with the wide angle and even the almost close-up parts. But when put into the close-up section, I didn't feel it worked as well as what I had planned.
The content section was a pictcure of another everyday object. Seeing the difference in representational to the abstract was easily done, but was much harder to do with the almost abstract.
On the purpose section I chose the picture of the barren landscape because I felt that was the best to create a difference when going from a rough content (journalistic perspective) to an artistic perspective. I enjoyed this assignment. Though I found some sections to be much harder than others when trying to pick pictures for each purpose.
